The story behind Timeless Presents

Hi, we’re Sharon and Chris Daltrey, The Timeless Presents dementia journey began one spring afternoon. My dad had Alzheimer’s — the most common cause of dementia. One day, while we were in the car together, I was driving when he suddenly exclaimed, “Oh! Look at the flowers on the trees!” He had forgotten that trees blossom in the spring and was moved by the unexpected display lining the road. It could have been a sad moment for me — but instead, I saw the trees through his eyes, as though for the first time, and shared in his wonder. Reflecting on that moment in the days that followed, I made a decision: to take the journey with him, and to look for other moments of joy along the way. Over time, his vocabulary declined and the number of things he could say diminished — but he never lost the desire to communicate. As he moved into the later stages and into a care home, communication became more difficult, and visits no longer brought much joy. We had learned that memories are often lost in reverse order — with the most recent fading first, while the oldest remain the longest. That insight changed everything. We began to seek out activities from his childhood — things that would feel instinctively familiar and wouldn’t need much explanation. We started giving him presents based on this idea. What followed were more moments of fun, connection, and love — simple but profound. Timeless Presents was born from that journey. We want to share what we learned and offer others the chance to experience those same moments of shared joy. With gratitude, Sharon & Chris Daltrey
